At first glance, the Solidify and Sew commands appear to do the same thing, convert surfaces to solids. There is a key difference. For the Solidify command, a selected set of surface parts must form a closed volume so that a solid body can be created. The Sew command has an option for closed volume surface parts to remain as a surface body.
