This article explains the official process for converting an existing IronCAD dongle-based (USB hardware key) license to a Named User (NU) license. A Named User license is tied to a specific individual computer rather than a physical USB dongle, allowing greater flexibility in activating between machines (e.g., use on multiple machines by the same user).
Important: This conversion is irreversible. Once the dongle license is removed and the dongle is destroyed or returned, the USB key can no longer be used.
Export the license from the dongle
Destroy the dongle or prepare it for return
Provide proof of destruction or return

IronCAD processes the switch Once IronCAD receives and verifies the exported files and proof of dongle destruction/return, the licensing team will:
Q: Can I keep using the dongle while waiting for the new license? No. The license is removed from the dongle during the export process, so IronCAD will no longer function with the dongle after Step 1. IronCAD can provide temporary time-limited licenses during the transition if needed to continue working with IronCAD.
Q: What if I accidentally delete the exported files? The license cannot be recovered without the export files. You would need to purchase a new license.
Q: Is there a fee for switching to Named User? Typically there is no additional fee for the conversion itself, provided the original dongle license is valid and properly returned/destroyed.
Q: Can I switch only some seats if I have multiple dongles? Yes. Each dongle must be processed individually following the same steps.
